Purpose:
Contribute to the overall success of the Halifax Public Gardens 2018 summer season. The successful candidate will execute initiatives in support of the mandate set forth by The Friends of the Public Gardens (TFPG) to preserve, protect, promote and celebrate the Halifax Public Gardens for the continued enjoyment of everyone.

Accountabilities:
The Intern will:
Interact with visitors in the Gardens providing direction, basic historical information.
Provide assistance on the Information Desk in addition to conducting Visitor Surveys and compiling the data collected.
Assist with scheduled events in the Gardens ensuring performers requests for assistance are fulfilled.
Assist with marketing, social media and website supporting the Halifax Public Gardens.
Learn the walking tour of the Gardens and conduct tours when necessary.
Maintain the historical stanchions located throughout the Gardens.
Assist Garden staff with interpretation, ongoing signage and advertising within the GardensĀ  Assist with Membership and Merchandise sales, daily records and banking.

Skills:
Effective communication skills both written and verbal are required.
Fluent in English however additional languages would be considered an asset.
Thorough knowledge of the internet and various social media networks.
Experience dealing with the public in a retail setting and cash experience.
Strong organization and time management skills.

Must be a full time student, returning to school in September 2018. Post-secondary preferred. Be able to work independently, with flexibility in hours of work including evenings and weekends

Remuneration:
$12.50 per hour, 30 hours per week.
